Chile desert wine hits the market

The region of the Central Valley of Chile is known by most of the wine production in that country. But now another area begins to be exploited. Further north of the known Limari region, in the middle of the Atacama desert, is the terroir of Huasco Kalfu, produced by Ventisquero Winery. Kalfu baptizes a series of nine wines, which will hit the market by the end of the year.
Among the varieties planted are Sauvignon Blanc, one of the main white grape varieties, Chile and Pinot Noir grapes that have adapted well to the calcareous soil and the refreshing sea breeze that tempers the high temperatures of the desert.
It's a different experience prove the Kalfu Sumpai Sauvignon Blanc 2013. He has notes of tropical fruit and herbal touches, but it's surprising he minerality, leave on for a bit of saltiness in the Pacific. Already the Kalfu Kuda Pinot Noir 2013 is elegant and brings the maturity of the capricious Pinot Noir, with its spicy notes and red fruits like cherries and plums. With barrel aging, it also brings notes of vanilla and chocolate. Without doubt, Huasco is a terroir which still hear too much.
