Ford Truck prepares to enter the fray of heavy in Brazil. The automaker will begin producing its extra-heavy truck with a capacity of up to 47 tonnes, at its plant in Sao Bernardo do Campo, in the ABC Paulista. The release, to the Brazilian market, will be only in the second half.
With this truck, Ford finally enters a market that last year accounted for 25% of sales of commercial vehicles in Brazil. "It is a very important segment for Ford and this car will be sold in other countries. It is a joint development with the engineers of Turkey, where we have a factory full of trucks, "said the Director of Ford trucks, Oswaldo garden.
Moreover, the Turkish market met first the truck.
The vehicle was released there and, second, the Ford strategy was supply first to Turkey on the basis of a c o m p e t i n the fiercer.
Segment sales there account for about 40% of the market for trucks.
"Here is a thread that comes in a Crescent. I believe that, by the end of this decade, extra heavy truck sales to reach at least 30% of the total. It is therefore a fundamental segment for Ford, "said garden.
Although the entry in this segment, the Executive believes that Ford will not retrieve the two percentage points it lost last year. "What will give us the possibility of recovering the participation will be the new truck that we will launch to fill the gap that we leave with the end of production of the series F. today, we have products below 8 tons," said garden.
According to the Executive, this truck will come later this year and will be one of the major releases of the carmaker together with extra-heavy. "With these vehicles we will complete our line in Brazil, will be in all segments." With extra-heavy, incidentally, Ford consumed half the budget for 2011 to 2015. During the period, the company will apply $ 670 million in the country.
"This year we should advertise more resources to Brazil. With this, we will increase the amount of investments in two more years, "he said. The announcement is expected to occur in October during the Fenatran, Latin America's largest transportation fair.
New engine For the new truck, Ford will change its engine supplier. The automaker has a partnership with Cummins to supply propellers for the other models of the Ford Cargo line.
Second, the new supplier for extra-heavy truck will be the Fiat Industrial company, FPT. "This will be the engine that will equip the model in Turkey and should be in Brazil as well," added the Executive.
Garden also announced that Ford's extra-heavy will not have traction 6 x 4 settings. According to him, this is a segment that has a more sophisticated transport proposal, and consequently more expensive.
"The trucks of 4 x 2 and 6 x 2 pulls versions represent 60% of segment sales. So, it is more interesting to join the fray for space in this segment, "said the Executive. Last year, Ford sold 21.78 thousand units in the Brazilian market. The automaker's performance represented a fall of 28.2% compared to the previous year. The production also fell.
Came out of a volume of 43 thousand units in one work shift to 24 thousand in 2012.
