Soy tire comes in defiance of competition

This September begins to get to stores the first line of tires based on soybean oil, search result of six years of the multinational Goodyear in partnership with the United Soybean Board (species of soy producers Council of the United States). The tire creates a completely new market for legumes, which can lead to increased demand and better prices for farmers.
Goodyear''s interest in manufacturing of "soy tire" started by issues of sustainability, but the search brought up a product with superior qualities and highly competitive. The rubber compound and soybean oil resulted in a tyre that stays soft even in adverse weather conditions, ensuring better grip and traction are the dry, humid or cold. Hence the reason the trade name, WeatherReady-ready for the weather. At the end, the tire proved to be more sustainable, economical, carbon neutral and totally renewable.
"When we started the joint research, six years ago, the idea was to just find a new demand for soybean oil. Now we have a tire that shows what soy is capable on the road, "says John Mbg, Chairman of the United Soybean Board who is also a farmer in Jenera, Ohio State.
The rubber with soybean oil blends more easily reinforced with silica compounds, item used in tires with low rolling resistance, reducing energy consumption in manufacturing.
"In terms of traction, is the best tire I''ve ever manufactured," says Ryan Peterson, President of Goodyear in the United States. The commercial appeal of the tire is particularly strong in the northern hemisphere, since it offers superior performance in acceleration, deceleration and braking on snow, and keeps more stable also in curves with a wet track.
The soy of Goodyear tire is available in the North American market in 40 sizes and types, and can be used in 77% of the models of cars, minivans and SUVs, including brands like Chevrolet, Ford, Honda and Toyota.
The search for new uses for agricultural commodities, such as soybeans and corn, is strategic for the industry due to consecutive production records. Currently, 15 million tons of soybeans are intended per year to the production of biodiesel in Brazil. Last month, Mato Grosso inaugurated the first 100% ethanol plant corn.
The research to reach the tire had soy monitoring, supervision and financial support of the Council of soybean producers of the United States. Contacted, Goodyear reported that there is still no date set for release of tire in Brazil.
