Online sales grow 26.7% in February

While total sales still find an unstable environment, e-commerce not only continues to be featured as well as had the most significant growth since February 2014, expanding 26.7 percent compared to February last year, this being the eighth consecutive month of gains in the sector. According to SpendingPulse, Mastercard''s retail indicator, considering the last three months, the channel grew 19.3 percent sales compared to last year, and most of the indicators of the fourth quarter of 2016. Between sectors of online sales, electronics and furniture had strong performance, while clothing, hobbies & bookstore and pharmaceuticals were below the growth of e-commerce.
"The economic environment remains challenging. Even with this scenario, it is important to score that consumer confidence had an important growth in February, compared to January 2017, "said Kamalesh Rao, Director of economic research for Mastercard Advisors. "In this scenario, there is likely to be a gradual resumption of retail in the coming months," says Rao.
