Appliances can only be sold with new label noise

Blenders, hair dryers and vacuum cleaners must be marketed in the country with the new label noise of the National Institute of metrology, quality and technology (Inmetro). The label tells the sound power in decibels and classifies 1 appliances (quieter) to 5 (least silent) and must be glued on the package so that consumers use the information at the time of purchase.

"It''s a new way of presenting more didactic and useful information for the consumer, that may make a purchase more aware. The idea is also to encourage the industry to produce quieter equipment, regardless of the power ", says Marcos Borges, responsible for the Brazilian labeling Program.

According to Marcos, this is an old demand of consumers: "so it is important that they know the new seal. The goal is to provide more convenience to users. ”
The Noise Label, which bears the mark of Inmetro and the Brazilian Institute of environment and renewable natural resources (Ibama), part of the National Programme of education and control of noise pollution — Silence.

Manufacturers and importers had until February 2014 in order to adapt production and July 2015 for marketing, respectively.

Supervision – commercial establishments where irregularities are found to have up to ten days to present a defense to the Institute and will be subject to the penalties provided for in the law, with fines ranging from 1.5 million to 100.00 R$ R$. Consumers who find irregularities may submit complaints by Ombudsman of Inmetro by phone 0800-285-1818 or by email ouvidoria@inmetro.gov.br.
