JBS will multiply offer of imported meat to supermarkets

From 2017 to JBS Friboi will develop an area of imported meat in supermarkets. The company already has an import Division, whose main focus is currently the foodservice. With the project, the idea is to expand in the Brazilian retail supply of outdoor courts, taking advantage of its production in other countries. The information was given by Artemio Listoni, Executive Director of sales at JBS meats Division in an interview with Brazilian journalists during the Sial Paris 2016, the world''s largest food fair, of which the company participates with its divisions. The event started on Sunday (16/10) and goes up to day 20 of this month in Paris, in France.
"We will provide direct to retail and we have trade marketing work for imported meat in stores", says the Executive. Today the supermarkets represent 5% of the sales of imported meats company, against 95% of foodservice. The goal is to reach the end of the year that comes with the retail accounting for 70% and 30% for foodservice. "But that will depend on how will walk the deployment process," says Listoni.
The Executive explained that the cuts sold in supermarkets will be the same as provided in the country. "The difference is the type of cattle, what changes the characteristics of the meat," he says. That''s what makes the imported meat used in foodservice. "we have identified a good potential to sell these products in supermarkets, you can differentiate your mix of meat," he adds. The sale will be made by the same team of Division sales.
The importation of meat of outdoor units allows to use part of the production that JBS is not disposed of in the country of origin. In the case of the liver in the United States, where the demand is not as big as in Brazil.
Currently the big supermarket chains, including the larger regional, account for 50% of the company''s internal sales, moving 30000 tons a month. The other 50% are left with little retail (supermarkets, butchers etc.).
Present in 150 countries, the JBS group have processing capacity of bovine heads 81500. In birds, animals and 13,800,000 in sheep, 114,700. According to the company, JBS is a world leader in the production of animal protein and the second largest. The company is present in Sial Paris brands Friboi, Swift, Moy Park, Seara, Pilgrim''s Pride and Rigamonti, among others.
