IPT lab develops reviews for squeezes, flasks and coolers

The packaging and Wrapping of the IPT has developed two new tests for evaluation of packaging which reserve NET content. The first is related to the standards of the Brazilian Association of technical standards (ABNT) performance of so-called squeezes-flexible plastic bottles with retractable nozzles-and the second, the standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), for the evaluation of thermal containers for the storage of hot content (thermoses) or cold (coolers).
According to Rogério Parra and Mara Lucia Siqueira Dantas, both researchers at the laboratory, the new tests were drawn due to market demand. The checks were requested by customers and, after a search of the standards and verification of the equipment available in the IPT devices were developed for evaluation of performance.
SQUEEZES-common among athletes and sports practitioners, squeezes have been popularized by its various uses. In addition to being instruments in favour of health and well-being, since even in everyday life or in low-impact activities is necessary to keep hydrated, currently, for example, many companies have promoted environmental protection campaigns offering these types of bottles as gifts, in order to reduce the consumption of disposable cups in the workplace.
The new test developed by IPT search meet the three requirements to be followed by manufacturers of squeezes, which seek to ensure the safety in storage of content and, therefore, the consumers too. Developed a clamping device to check the stiffness of the material, and the existence of sharp corners (sharp surfaces) and the pullout resistance of retractable spout bottles.
Parra notes that these evaluations are essential to avoid risks to users of squeezes. "The principle of packaging is it contain something. If it rips, for example, it loses its function. In addition, they [the squeezes] cannot have sharp corners, not to hurt the consumer's mouth, and the lid has to endure the pulling, the danger of esgasgamento ".
THERMOS – vacuum flasks are another common item in Brazil, both in the home environment as work. Famous for the popular coffee store, today it is possible to find even individual and miniature versions, in various sizes, materials and colors. Already oscoolers, which resemble in terms of construction at thermoses, have also become common in events, usually for storage of beverages at low temperature.
According to Mara, the new developed tests focus on the thermal efficiency of these products. "This is the main feature of the thermos and the cooler. The standard specifies how long each bottle, with each given volume, must keep the contents at the given temperature in a normal environment, external temperature. We monitor the decay time or increase the internal temperature [in], "explains the researcher.
For the evaluation of thermoses, were also drawn up new devices, as for the verification of liquid spatter on the shed and packing for impact resistance in normal handling. Within these tests are also carried out analyses of drip and leak, as well as testing in handles and evaluations of the size of the inner lining, in the case doscoolers.
