Fish sales fall 30% year to date

Retraction in fish consumption triggered by the economic crisis aggravated the situation of the sector in the country's industries, according to Abipesca, an association that represents companies in this sector. Fish sales fell 30 percent this year to date, compared to the same period in 2014.
Of the total number of companies that make up the entity and which account for 80% of the national market, a third filed for judicial reorganization. "It is a strong symptom that the industry does not go well, because of the competition from imported products, the lack of regulation of the industry and of public policies", said Eduardo Lobo, Vice President of Abipesca. About 90% of the members survive the national consumer market, which is in retraction since the second half of last year.
Most companies have been trying to migrate its performance to the external market to take advantage of the favorable exchange rate, according to the Executive. He is co-owner of Prime Seafood, lobsters, which exports 80% of production. "Industries and supermarkets in the country are with stocks through the roof. If these companies have support, they can achieve a turnover of 15% to 20% larger in 2016 and keep its staff, "says Wolf.
Among the applications of the newly created Association is the development of a quality label. "With the regulations, the thread can invest and resume its growth."
