Production of appliances of Brown line retracts 36.2% in the year, says IBGE

After high demand for televisions in the period pré-Copa, the Brown line of home appliances production shrank in the first quarter of 2015. The fall was 36.2% over a year earlier, according to the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE).
"There is certainly a basis for comparison. The Brown line is very sharp, after positive results before the World Cup, "said André Macedo, Manager of the IBGE's Industry coordination.
In addition, the credit more scarce and expensive contributes to reduce the demand for durable consumer goods, usually of higher value and that compromise larger share of household income. "The credit affects goods like motorcycles, appliances of Brown line, white line, in addition to furniture", quoted Macedo.
"Since September 2014, the trajectory is very clear in terms of reduction of industry production. At times there are increasing the speed of the fall, in others it decreases, but is a trajectory very marked, "he said.
Overall, industrial production had shrinkage of 0.8% in March compared with February, in series with seasonal adjustment. Compared to March last year, the activity fell 3.5%. In the first quarter, the Brazilian industry shrank 5.9 percent over a year earlier.
