SP and MG invest in fine wines

Wine producers of São Paulo and southern Minas Gerais begin to launch this year in the market the first fine wines produced in their own lands after years of investments in the development of grape varieties adapted to the Southeast and with new technologies of cultivation management. The investments want to do the interior of São Paulo and southern Minas Gerais a new polo of fine wines in the country.
In São Roque (SP), the winery Góes just spoon, on March 4, the first crop for sale in scale of the French species cabernet. The wine is already being marketed on a small scale since December 2012, from the crop planted in 2008 and harvested in 2010.
This was the first experience of commercial plantation species in the State, and the results obtained, the plans are to expand the acreage with grape cabernet franc.

"This year gave a good quality grape, the result was startling," says wine Director, Claudio Garcia who also chairs the sectoral Chamber of the grape and wine in the State of São Paulo. It is projected that this year's crop will come to market as early as 2014 and, within three years, his wine production will reach 15 million litres of wine per year, equivalent to about 20 thousand bottles.
Since 2001, the winery has invested $ 2 million in an area of 2 hectares for analysis and 8 hectares vineyard commercial deployment to test 38 American, European grape varieties and hybrids derived from crosses of species developed by Embrapa and the Instituto Agronômico de Campinas (IAC).
Other European varieties that are beginning to be tested in São Paulo and soil are already marketed by mining are the wineries, for red wines, syrah and sauvignon blanc for white wines. According to the company's agricultural research consultant from Minas Gerais (Epamig) Murillo de Albuquerque, "the syrah was the most adapted [to the climate of the State] and currently is already in commercial cultivation".
In Sao Paulo, she also has been showing good results, according to the winemaker Wine Guaspari responsible, Cristian Donoso, of Espírito Santo do Pinhal (SP). According to the technician, this French variety has been showing "high productivity and high quality in the production of wine". After six years of testing, the winery plans to place on the market the wines produced from the syrah and sauvignon blanc by the end of this year.
For the grape and Wine Industry of São Paulo and the Epamig, there are already about 150 hectares of vines being grown in European miners of Three Hearts, Cordislândia, Três Pontas, Varginha, Santo Antônio do Amparo, Andradas and Baependi, and in the cities of São Paulo, Espírito Santo do Pinhal, Divinolândia, Itobi, Louveira, Vinhedo, Valinhos, Indaiatuba, São Roque, São Carlos and Clondalkin.
Long term although the winemakers in the Southeast began to launch the first fine wines of European grapes produced in the region, producers recognize that the idea of making the regional production is a reference in the Country is a long-term project.
"Today, [where] the varieties get along better and are more advanced are the border of Rio Grande do Sul, the Serra Gaúcha, in limits with Uruguay. In his own State, where wine breathes, with 90% of the national production, [the producers] are looking for other regions and adaptations ", Claudio Garcia.
According to the businessman, the priority now is "quality and acceptance", no financial return. "We still do not have return projection of fine wines. You must have productivity so that the cost is diluted, "he notes.
