Not from concentrate juice saves citrus industry

Brazilian exports of concentrated juice (FCOJ). After having reached 1.13 million tons in 2001, fell to 655,000 2016/17 harvest.
The scenario changes when it comes to juice not from concentrate (NFC). In that case, the lights remain green. Initiated 2001/02 harvest, with only 24000 tonnes, Brazilian exports of unconcentrated totaled 1.21 million tons in 2016/17.
Juice concentrate exports still lead — in volume equivalent —, but the consumer will making the choice by unconcentrated. And that kind of juice can be the path to the brazilian industry and to the Orange producer.
"The consumer makes your choice, and the industries are preparing to serve you," says Ibiapaba Netto, Executive Director of the CitrusBR (National Association of exporters of Citrus juices).
The concentrated juice, after passing for boilers, loses water. The importer the return to the initial stage with added water.
Already the unconcentrated juice is just pasteurized. In this case, the industries operate with larger volumes, which requires new investments in storage and larger ships for transport.
"Industries are preparing for that. The pace of this evolution will depend on the appetite of the consumer, "says Netto.
The unconcentrated juice production requires more careful. The course of the weather during the harvest and orange varieties determine the quality of the product.
The last two harvests, for example, were challenging for the production, according to the Executive of the CitrusBr.
The unconcentrated juice production becomes almost another activity in citrus chain.
Care should begin in the orchard, fruit varieties to aid in the quality of the juice.
Good for the sector is that the growing consumption in the markets of greatest demand. In harvest that ended in June, exports of juice not from concentrate were records for the European Union, totaling 848,000 tonnes. And prices in the gondola outweigh the concentrated juice.
