Manufacture of bicycles retreats

The production of bicycles in Manaus Industrial Pole (PIM) shrank 6.7 percent in the first half, to 296,200 units, according to the Brazilian Association of manufacturers of motorcycles, Mopeds, Scooters, and Bicycles (Abraciclo).
In a statement, the entity declares that the June performance was responsible for pulling down the results of the first half, but the expectation is still growth for the year to date.
Last month, were produced by PIM-related bikes 40700, 36.7% less than the volume registered in the same month of 2016.
The reduced production in June reflects, in part, the anticipation of layoffs in one of the largest manufacturers of bicycles in Manaus, according to Abraciclo.
"Even with the layoffs of members, still believe in growth for the year, since the political-economic context signals a more favourable environment," says in the press release Vice President of entity for the segment, John Ranel.
The associated project for 2017 production between 700,000 to 800,000 units, up to 19% before 2016.
