Imports of coffee capsules recovers and grows 61% in 1st half

The economic crisis, which had severely affected the Brazilian imports of ground roasted coffee in the first half of last year, already affects less the sector in the first six months of this year. Spending on imports of capsules soared 61 percent in the first half, to $ $37,000,000, compared with $ $23,000,000 from January to June 2016, according to Secex (Secretariat of foreign trade). Despite this jump, external purchases made by companies that operate in Brazil only returned to the level of the same period in 2015, when imports had reached $ $36,000,000 during the same period. Brazilian exports of ground roasted coffee also had recovery, but the numbers indicate the little importance of this sector in the coffee chain in Brazil. Despite being the world leader in exports of green coffee, the country cannot develop a foreign market for the industrialized product. From January to June, the Brazilian foreign sales of roasted coffee reached $ $7,240,000, up from the same period last year, but far from $ $35,000,000 in 2008, when the country was coming winning foreign markets for this segment of coffee. Data released by the Cecafé (Council of Brazil''s coffee Exporters) this week indicate that Brazilian exports of green coffee reached 29,200,000 bags 2016/17 harvest (July to June). Already the ground roasted coffee sales totaled the corresponding just 28900 sacks, a volume equal to the immediately previous crop. Sales of instant coffee, corresponding to 3,600,000 sacks, were also stable for the past two seasons, according to the data of the entity. Where DOES the movement of increasing both exports of industrialized coffee as the imports occurs, in part, because some companies send your product to be placed in capsules abroad. The main suppliers of coffee to the industrialized Brazil are Switzerland, Italy and France. The Swiss were responsible for 47% of the product entered in Brazil. The Italians had 28% stake and the French, 7%. Already the main markets for Brazilian industrial product were United States, Argentina and Venezuela.
