Internet giants might steal telecom operators market

São Paulo-telecom operators are at risk of falling behind internet giants in emerging technology segments. According to Accenture, 44 percent of the market would trade the current providers like Google or Amazon for incoming, if they offer the same services.
The discovery is the result of a consultancy study which heard more than 25000 consumers in 26 countries, revealing some worrying prospects for the teles. One of them is the wish expressed by 80% of the public heard-of having a single supplier of it and telecom. Even worse is the interest (expressed by 55%) to change carrier at an interval of a year because of bad service.
According to the research and global media and communication Director of Accenture, Francesco Venturini, the traditional telecommunications market is experiencing a period of great commodification that accelerates the movement of transformation of companies in the sector. "If the communication service providers don''t do changes necessary to provide hiperpersonalizados services quickly, will be at risk of losing market share and become organizations that offer simply without value added connectivity, and that means lower revenue," he says. Otherwise, many "Windows of opportunity will close."
Among these '' Windows '' are connectivity markets for cars and smart homes, which will help compose the ecosystem of the so-called internet of things (IoT), increasing the demand for chips from the machine-to-machine communication (M2M).
Verticals are a priority for internet companies: the movement was evident during the Google Cloud Next 2017, main event of the company''s cloud, which ended today (10), in San Francisco (USA). Among the new features presented are a '' shopbot '' (species of intelligent virtual Assistant) developed next to the e-commerce giant eBay and which will be integrated into Google Home.
A partnership with the German business software giant SAP for creating new enterprise solutions was also announced, intensify competitiveness in a segment dominated by Amazon. Originally an e-commerce, the company founded by Jeff Bezos has about 45% of the global market share of the provision of cloud after a successful turnaround that prioritized the provision of digital services. Go a similar way is something that traditional telecom operators still studying how to do.
Estimates
"Without a doubt cloud is the main topic on the agenda of executives today," said the research manager of software and consulting services specializing in technology IDC Brazil, Luciano Branches. "It''s a market that grows up from 20% a year and with a total investments in Brazil that should reach $890 million as early as 2017. In Latin America as a whole it will be very close to the $2 billion ", estimates the expert.
"[The cloud] is a market with prospects of billions, so there''s room for everybody," argues the DCI the territory manager of the Google Cloud in Brazil, Renato Carvalho, during event in São Paulo that celebrated the opening of the Next.
"Today the telecommunications company are partners and we depend on them at a global level," he added the Executive, noting, however, that the company has the largest network for internal use in the world. According to the Google Cloud solutions engineer Michel Pereira, worth for the company to bring a fiber-optic cable "of Boca Raton (USA) to Sao Paulo" than provide security upon a provider of telecommunications infrastructure.
"There is also the Google Fiber project, to distribute internet and cabling in the United States," continued Renato Carvalho, "but when we look at the business, we have no evidence that Google will be internet provider as carriers are".
Applications
As evidenced in San Francisco, Google''s focus in the coming months will be even popularizing the G Suite, suite of applications for the corporate market.
According to data released by the company, the business module of the G Suite (grouping solutions such as email services, communication and virtual disk) already has more than 3 million customers. Have the tool for file storage in the cloud Google Drive already more than 800 million monthly active users, both in companies and ordinary users.
