Motorcycle production falls 35.9% in February

Sao Paulo-the production of motorcycles in Brazil reached 71,057 units in February this year, falling 35.9% compared with the 110,823 units produced in the same month to 2015, said the Brazilian Association of manufacturers of motorcycles, Mopeds, Scooters, and Bicycles (Abraciclo).
In comparison with January, when production was 75,959 units, there was downtown 6.5%.
The President of Abraciclo, Marcos Fermanian, stated that the fall in relation to January may be explained by the Carnival holiday, which reduced the number of working days in the month.
"However, the market for motorcycles, as well as other sectors of the economy is impacted by the current political instability and economic scenario of the country, linked to the lack of consumer confidence," he said.
Faced with a scenario more difficult, the President of Abraciclo said he does not rule out the revision of its forecasts for the sector in 2016. For now, the entity designs high of 2.5% this year, compared to 2015.
In retail, were sold 74,404 motorcycles in February, representing a 5.3% decline compared with the volume of January (78,538 units) and 20.7% over February 2015 (93,806).
The projection to 2016 is growth of 0.5%.
February exports totaled 5,692 motorcycles, up 70.6% compared to January and 128.5% growth compared to the same month of 2015.
According to Abraciclo, the results primarily reflect the viability of more business in Argentina. The entity expects expansion of 8.5% on foreign sales in 2016.
