Nutella sparked controversy between Italy and France

The Nutella became the target of a discord between France and Italy. That's because France's Ecology Minister, Segolene Royal, said that it was necessary to stop eating Nutella because the hazelnut cream was made with Palm oil and causing environmental impacts.
"We need to reforest so massive because there was a large deforestation which contributed to global warming. You need to stop eating Nutella, for example, because it is made with Palm oil, "said the Minister on Monday night in an interview with French broadcaster Canal +. The Minister added that the hazelnut cream should be produced with other ingredients.
The Minister of the environment of Italy, Luca Galletti, spared no Minister and replied: "Segolene Royal is concerned. Let the Italian products alone. Dinner today (...) will be bread with Nutella, "said Galetti, according to Deals. The Nutella is manufactured by Italian Ferrero.
Yesterday, however, the Prime Minister backed down and apologised via his Twitter account: "so sorry for the controversy about the Nutella. Accordingly, progress should be recognized, "he said.
On Tuesday, Ferrero issued a press release, without referring directly to the speech of the French Minister stating that it is "aware of the environmental issues" and which adopted a number of commitments in relation to the supply of raw material. According to Ferrero, palm oil is imported from Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and Brazil. The company informed that still has the traceability of its raw materials, through the Roundtable for sustainable palm oil, which provides certification of products.
This isn't the first time that Nutella is the subject of controversy in France. In 2012, the country's Parliament voted and rejected a Bill which proposed a 300% increase in tax on Palm oil. Proponents of the measure argued that the product would be harmful to the environment and contributing to childhood obesity.
