Consumers buy 765 calories per day in food and beverages packaged

The Euromonitor International conducted a survey of the amount of nutrients acquired by each person per day in food and beverages packaged. The data, available on the Passport database: Nutrition, of Euromonitor, monitors eight nutrients: energy (calories), fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugar, salt, proteins and fibers in 54 countries.
According to the new research, worldwide is acquired 1.5 trillion calories per day, with the average consumer buying 765 calories in packaged foods and beverages each day. Although the number seems small – considering that the recommended portion is about 2000 calories for each adult, this is a global average. Countries in North America and Western Europe, for example, buy more than 1,500 calories per day, while India buys 150 calories per day and China, 510.
In relation specifically to the health of Brazilians, the positive is in the amount of fiber acquired per day, which rose 9.4% since 2009. In the world, the average advance was 7.1%.
"Despite more than 40% of the population being overweight and obese, our data on nutrition show that until 2019 the world will buy 90 calories more per day", according to Lauren Bandy, nutrition analyst Euromonitor International. "This analysis helps us to address the growing concerns about the nutritional value while building a panorama of people in different countries are eating".
The Passport database: Nutrition describes how brands contribute to buying nutritional content worldwide, identifying the components of the diet of consumers globally and the impact that each nutrient, like salt, has in our food supply. The data allow companies and Governments to understand the differences in taste and food preferences in each location or region of the globe.
