McDonald's reaches 100% of certified packaging

"All packages of paper used in McDonald's restaurants in Brazil are the seal of the Forest Stewardship Council ®, one of the main institutions of certification of wood products in the world. This seal recognises that the entire chain of production of packaging from cellulose performs responsible forest management from the point of view of economic, social and environmental. McDonald's Brazil is the first in the world to achieve this goal-six years before established in public commitment by the network (year 2020). "This is an extremely important achievement for McDonald's. Is the recognition of an ongoing effort to operate increasingly in a sustainable manner, with transparency and ensuring the quality of products offered to our customers, "says Celso Cruz, Director of Supply Chain of McDonald's Brazil. To the FSC, the results of this partnership are broader still. "She represents the possibility to communicate to a wide public the social and environmental benefits of FSC forest certification", says Fabiola Zerbini, Executive Secretary of the FSC Brazil. The initiative has a major impact, since, by year, are used more than 6 thousand tons of original packs in more than 840 cellulosic McDonald's restaurants in the country. To achieve this mark, the network relies on suppliers who follow a series of criteria and requirements established by the company. "Recently made a deal with our supplier of coils and this material will also be certified from February 2015," says Cruz. "
