Earth Strong finances chocolate agroindustry in settlement in Bahia

An agribusiness with the capacity to produce 500 kilos of chocolate and 4,000 pounds of chocolate milk powder, per day, will be deployed in the settlement Paul Jackson, in the municipality in the territory of Ibirapitanga, identity of the southern Bahia lowlands. Resources, R $ 6.7 million, are strong, Land program of the Federal Government.
The initiative will meet families of cocoa-producing 990 23 settlements, located in 13 counties in the South and low South of the State. The settlements to be included are two thousand hectares of planted areas with cacaueiras crops.
"The expectation is that in a year, after the beginning of construction work, the agro-industry is ready," explains the agronomist of the Landless workers movement (MST), Julio Cesar Campos, who was one of the authors of the project. The Association of settlement has already checked with the request to become a co-op.
Account fields that resources will be invested in building the physical structure of the agro-industry, the acquisition of machinery, equipment, furniture, appliances and vehicles. In addition, the project provides training for workers cooperative members and one year of technical assistance. "The intention is that with a technical assistance directed to occur an improvement in productivity and expansion of cocoa plantations," adds the agronomist.
The release of resources should begin in February and the works began in March.

The Strong Earth Program is a joint initiative of the Federal Government in partnership with the National Development Bank (BNDES) and with the Bank of Brazil Foundation. Released in February 2013, the programme aims to stimulate the deployment and modernization of agro-industries in agrarian reform settlements.
