White line has worse performance of the last 10 years

Affected by the slower pace of economic growth and the negative impact of the World Cup that drained the Brazilian's income for the purchase of TVs, manufacturers of stoves, refrigerators, and washing machines closed the first half with the worst sales performance in the last ten years. From January to June, the number of appliances marketed for trade industry fell 12% in comparison with the same period in 2013.
The result of the semester was influenced especially by the strong decline in the second quarter. Survey of power lines, an association that gathers the sector industry, shows that, between April and June, industrial sales of white line fell 20 percent compared to the previous year.
The slump in the industry prevails, despite Government help to boost sales. The appliances remain with tax on industrialized products (IPI) reduced the benefit of crisis which began in 2009. The items are also part of the program my house Better, which gives credit facilitated of r $ 5000 to equip the House who acquired property in the program.
Concerned about the drop in sales and the increase in inventories, manufacturers do everything they can to adjust production at the lowest pace of retail business. They gave no layoffs showed vacancies for workers who quit and temporarily suspended the contract of employment (lay-off), following the example of the automobile industry.
Even so, the number of companies with products stranded not to grow. In July, for example, the slice of the mechanical sector industries, where fall manufacturers of appliances and machines, with excessive stocks was 16.7%, according to the poll of Getulio Vargas industrial. In June, this installment was 16.2%.
"It was the worst first half of the last 10 years," said Armando Valle, Vice President of Institutional Relations and sustainability of Whirlpool Latin America, the industry's largest manufacturer and owner of the brand Brastemp and Consul. For the President of Eletros evaluations, Lourival Kiçula, falling in the quarter was higher than expected.
According to Valle, in the crisis of 2009 the fall in sales was not as strong as the current because the IPI reduction helped. Now, he notes, cutting the tax rate is lower compared to that time. In the case of washers, the IPI today are in 10%, compared to 5% in 2009. The IPI is washers normal 20%.
Kiçula assigns the bad result to more complicated economic scenario, with access to credit more difficult and more expensive. He does not risk to make projections for the year. Already Valle believe a recovery beginning in August and a second half stable as compared to the same period in 2013. If the projection is confirmed, the year closes with fall between 7% and 8% in industrial sales. "This result wouldn't be a disaster, but reasonable," says Valle. The white line closed 2013 with retraction of 5% in sales.
Job
With business down in the second quarter, setting that persisted in July, stepped on the brake industries. The first reflection of that decision appeared in the job. Between April and June, the balance of the generation of formal jobs mechanical engineering work, which encompasses the white line, was negative in places, according to 15.2 billion General Register of employed and unemployed. In the first quarter, the balance of slots was positive, with 13.5 thousand vacancies.
In addition to dismiss, companies in the industry have adopted the lay-off. Erick Silva, President of the syndicate of the metalurgists of São Carlos and region (SP), says that Electrolux temporarily suspended the contract of employment of 120 workers, from July 7, where is the factory of washing machines and stoves. "It was the first time we negotiate lay-off on the white line", says the Union, noting that it was a measure to preserve jobs. In June, the company had already given collective vacations to 4.6 thousand employees in three plants. Sought, the company did not comment the lay-off.
Also in June, gave collective vacations to Whirlpool 5 thousand workers. "We can't rule out the possibility of further layoffs and to make lay-off this semester," says Vale, Vice President of the company. He noted that in recent months, the company replaced the slots of those who resigned. With that, they were well dried between 300 and 500 jobs.
"The scenario is worrisome. Companies are laying off gradually, "says the President of the syndicate of the metalurgists of Itu and region, Dorival Jesus birth. After the Mexican Mabe, since may in reorganization, closed last year the factory of Itu, remaining in the city component industries.
According to the President of the syndicate of the metalurgists of Campinas and region, Jair dos Santos, who is responsible for the area where the two other factories of Mabe, Hortolândia, Campinas, in São Paulo, the company says it has 200 employees surplus, part of them at home on paid leave. "Recently, there have been 80 layoffs in the enterprise." Sought, Mabe not comments on the situation.
Saints assigns the Court to adjust through which passes the company on grounds of reorganization. He believes that the reduction in white line is a normal movement for the period for the winter. For him, the fizzle of entrepreneurs is linked to wage negotiations, with base date on 1st September. This year, the election is 5.69% increase, adjusted for inflation. In 2013, the workers managed to readjust real de 2%. The information is from the newspaper O Estado de s. Paulo.
