Rolls-Royce will invest $ 80 million in factory in Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO-the British group Rolls-royce announced yesterday the establishment of a maritime propellants factory in Duque de Caxias, in Rio's metropolitan region. With an investment of r $ 80 million, the new factory will be deployed in May and will make the first deliveries in January 2015. The focus of the unit will be local content requirements for shipbuilding contracts for the pre-salt layer.
According to the President of the group for Latin America, Francisco Itzaina, the new plant aims to meet the challenges of Brazil, with the pre-salt layer and improvements in productivity. The company already has contracts for manufacturing equipment to two vessels of Petrobras. According to Francisco Itzaina, one third of the offshore market opportunities are located in Brazil.
"You can respond to a need for local content or you can have a really important commitment with the development of the sector and of the country, and is where Rolls-Royce arises," said the Executive. The Executive said that the Group Training Center opened in March, in Niterói, to empower the operators equipments of Rolls-Royce. With an investment of $ 8.5 million, the Center trains annually 700 workers. Second Itzaina, the number may increase by four times with the operation of the plant.
In addition to Petrobras, with two orders, the company also has contracts with the Sette Brazil with seven vessels and a volume of $ 100 million. Deliveries are planned for the first half of 2015 to 2016. In addition to these orders, the company negotiates contracts for other vessels, that can be installed in the new plant.
