Nokia comes out of profit and loss of 25 million euros in the quarter

SAO PAULO-the Finnish multinational Nokia suffered worsening once again operating in the fourth quarter of last year to register net loss of 25 million euros. In the same months of 2012, the company had profit of 193 million euros.
The figure, however, includes the Division of cell phones and tablets of the group, which has already been sold to the American Microsoft and is registered at the "discontinued operations" in the balance sheet. Excluding the results from this area, the company's profit would have fallen 38.4 percent on the same basis, to 183 million euros.
The net revenue was also lower in the period. Sales totaled 3.48 billion euros to Nokia, 21.2% lower in level. The worst performance was observed on the mobile devices segment, whose sales shrank 28.8 percent, to 2.63 billion euros — but all divisions had a fall.
The most relevant area for the Finnish now is the networking and solutions, focused on telecommunications infrastructure. This business has revenue of 3.1 billion euros, down 22 percent, and the service area was worse, with drop of 22% also, to 1.54 billion euros.
China
The only area that yielded the result to Nokia between October and December was China. Revenues rose 2 percent to 424 million euros. In the rest of Asia and the Pacific, the biggest Finnish market, there were 23% indentation for 907 million euros and, in Europe, a fall of 21 percent, to 834 million euros.
The sale of the business of mobile phones to Microsoft generated loss of 43% of consolidated revenue from Nokia. Finnish, however, gains in profitability. In the fourth quarter, the segment's operating margin, which was left to Nokia, was 7.8%, which shows an improvement compared with the 6.3 percent posted a year earlier. The statistical area "had negative margin devices of 7.5%, compared with 2.6% in 2012.
"The fourth quarter was a watershed in our history," said Risto Siilasmaa, Acting President of the company. "We are carefully steering us to the future of Nokia".
