The coffee WINS edible version

The first coffee processed for eating, released by SPA, can already be found in States as Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul
One of the most consumed by Brazilians, gains a new version: the edible. According to Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Café (ABIC), Brazil, besides being one of the main producers of the world, was also the largest per capita consumer in 2012, with 4.98 pounds per capita, surpassing countries such as Italy, France and United States.
Released late last year by the SPA, Vila Velha (ES), the first processed to eat-that throws a new category for the sector, called Cafene-has been well accepted.
"With the new product, we have seen our sales grow about 40%. The expectation for the end of the year is double the value reached in 2012, of R $ 12 million, "says Renato Cherif, head of the company. The edible coffee can now be found in supermarkets and retailers of States like São Paulo, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
With this new option, the "little black dress" can take new flights and come up with a way to a market with great potential: the confectionery. "Until now, virtually all the coffee consumed in the world was as a drink. It can be framed within the gastronomic segment now also as food, and can be consumed anywhere. Is a milestone in the history of coffee and proud to be a pioneer in Brazil ", says Cherif.
The new version of the coffee can be used in confectionery products that are made from chocolate, as Brigadier, cakes and puddings.
The Coffee Beans, to the final consumer, and Coffee to Coins, food professionals, come to the market with the flavours espresso, cappuccino and latte. "The products are made from coffee full mass obtained from the processing of Premium 100% Arabica coffee," said the Executive, adding that its manufacturing plant has already has capacity for production of 150 tons per month, but that are currently produced about 80 tons. "We have potential to expand rapidly".
Cherif said that despite still not having any contract closed, countries such as Italy, Japan and the Netherlands have already showed interest in the Brazilian product, patented by SPA. "Our expectations are very good, now we have to think about the product developments and new applications. A new line is on the way, "he said, without giving further details. The history of coffee grade can be compared to that of cocoa, consumed only as a drink until 1847, when the firm of Joseph Fry, using cocoa powder, cocoa butter and sugar, made the first chocolate for eating.
"The analogy with the history of chocolate is in some packaging", says the Executive. For now, the dissemination of the products has been made only in the points of sale and by Facebook.
