GM of Gravataí hits production record

The factory of Gravataí (RS) of General Motors completed 13 years of operation on the last day July 20 with production record. The factory, which started its operation with an installed capacity of 60 thousand units per year, currently operates in the rhythm of 1,350 cars/day (63 cars per hour), working in three shifts, which allows to achieve about 350 thousand vehicles per year.
According to the GM Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul unit is considered one of the four most productive factories of the company in the world and already has more than 2.1 million cars produced. "We are reaping the fruits of a pioneer project in the automotive industry. This is a factory that is designed to grow and be a reference, and the numbers prove it, "says Mark Munhoz, Vice President of GM of Brazil. The Executive points out that the synergy between GM and supply chain is one of the differences that allow you to be global manufacturing and production model.
Situated in a park along the other 19 companies systemists, the mill integrates the Gravataí automotive Industrial complex (Ciag)-manufacturing operation model for several companies around the world-that brings together daily about nine thousand workers on site.
Parallel to the development of the factory, which since its inauguration has undergone two significant enlargement process, the concept of environmental conservation was consolidated as another key value in the operation of the unit. In addition to maintaining an environmental preservation area of 50 hectares adjoining the complex since August 2012 the factory became the first plant of the company in the country, to recycle anything less than 100% of the waste generated from its industrial production process, through the implementation of Zero Landfill (Landfill Free).
