Bioplastic packaging debut of Basf

Launched six years ago by Basf, the biodegradable plastic Ecovio, and compostable polylactic acid (PLA), raw material of vegetable origin, won its first use in packaging.
The material was used in the production of coffee capsules Beanarella, Switzerland Swiss Coffee Company, as well as in product assemblies that wrap are marketed.
According to Basf, the capsule is made of a specific grid for injection, "supporting perfectly" the high pressure that is put on coffee preparation.
The flexible secondary packaging, in turn, is based on a multilayer structure that would present high barrier to migration of aromas.
Both are wrappers of compost after use. Before this project, the Ecovio basically had been used in the production of biodegradable waste collection bags and bags for fruit and vegetable protection in rural environment.
