Sale of corrugated board rises 2.3% in may, says ABPO

Corrugated box sales, an indicator of the level of economic activity, rose 2.29 percent in may over a year earlier, to the highest level for the month since at least 2009, according to preliminary data from the Brazilian Association of corrugated board (ABPO), which represents the industry, disclosed Monday (10).
According to the entity, corrugated box sales last month totaled 293.7 million tons, compared with 287.1 thousand in may 2012 and 291.3 million last April.
With the result may, sales during the first five months of the year amounted to 1.387 million tons, an increase of 5.1% over same period in 2012. The volume is also the highest accumulated for the period since at least 2009.
