LOS ANGELES-Sony has set the price of the new video game console PlayStation 4 $ 100 below the value that will be charged by Microsoft for its new Xbox One, a fierce rivalry by pockets of players before the shopping season of new year's Eve.
Sony said it will sell the PlayStation 4 for $ 399 at the end of the year shortly after Microsoft's announced price of $ 499 for its first Xbox again in eight years. The software giant's new console will begin to be sold in the United States in November.
Sony also received applause from the audience present at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, when he said that the PS4 will run games used and that will not require an always-on connection to the Internet.
"The PlayStation 4 will not impose new restrictions on used games," said the Chief Executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Jack Tretton, while the audience applauded.
Microsoft and Sony hope that the Islands attract new fans and keep users who are increasingly playing games on smartphones and other mobile devices, which has affected the market for video games, to 66 billion dollars. Both companies are also offering more entertainment options.
The Xbox 360 is currently the best selling video game console in the United States, but overall sales are nearly tied with the PlayStation 3.
