Fertilizer sales grew 3% until may

The supply of fertilizers to the final consumer totaled 2.344 million tons in may, a drop of 2.1% over the same month of 2012, according to the National Association for the diffusion of Fertilizers (Walks). But, in the year-to-date, sales increased by 3% compared with the same period last year, to 9.534 million tons.
In the first five months of the year, the supply of nitrogen products had high of 6.6%, due to increased demand for corn crops in the Midwest and South, as well as purchases of wheat in the South, as the Walks. Phosphate fertilizers already retreated 1.8%, mainly from lower on volume of deliveries to the sugar cane. Potassium products sales, in turn, grew by 4.7% in the period, with the anticipation of deliveries for summer planting.
The national fertilizer production grew 3.1% from January to may, to 3.804 million tons. Already the fertilizer import has grown significantly. In 2013, the accumulated purchases abroad totaled 7.635 million tons, 31.5% in comparison with the same period in 2012.
