GM and Peugeot will create a car together

On the eve of celebrating the first anniversary of a partnership held to return to profit in Europe, General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroën have confirmed that they will develop compact cars.
The French automaker will lead the creation of three compact vehicle platforms that should be offered for sale in 2016, said Peugeot Chairman Philippe Varin, and the interim President of GM, Stephen j. Girsky.
Peugeot, Europe's second-largest automaker, and GM, which controls Opel and Vauxhall on the continent, announced the formalisation of the Alliance in February last year. Projects that now earn Clipboard include the chassis and most of the pieces of compact models.
Automakers, however, refused to comment on the rumors about a joint venture between Peugeot and European brands of GM. "Opel is not for sale," said Girsky, the subsidiary that accumulates losses. In the fiscal first half, Peugeot had losses of € 819 million. The company announced plans to close its factory in the vicinity of Aulnay in 2014, in addition to reducing its workforce in France at 17%. Sales in Europe accounted for 62% of the annual sales of the Peugeot-it is worth remembering that the car trade in the Mainland has dropped for the 16th consecutive year.
The situation is also complicated GM in Europe. Since 1999, the carmaker accumulated losses of $ 17.3 billion and the company has considered terminating the production of Bochum, Germany. The American carmaker has become the second largest shareholder of Peugeot a year ago, when purchased 7% of shares for € 320 million.
