Carrefour's sales reach r $ 35 bi in Brazil in 2012

Consolidated sales increased by 1.2% of Carrefour in Brazil in 2012 and reached 12.54 billion euros ($ 34.7 billion), according to a report released on Thursday (17). In the fourth quarter, the company reported high of 2.2%, to 3.28 billion euros ($ 8.7 billion), compared to the previous year.
From October to December, the retailer grew in all formats in which it operates in the country, namely, supermarkets, neighborhood stores and wholesale. But the Brazilian performance in the quarter was less than the increase of 14.4% in sales of Argentina or 6.4% in China.
Without the devaluation of the real, the revenue in the quarter was 12.6% higher than that recorded in Brazil the year before, including new establishments. For the same reason, the foreign exchange sales in Argentina have grown 24.6%, and 0.7% in China.
With the current exchange rates, sales in Latin America rose by 4.8%. Without the negative effect of 10.3% in the region, revenues would have increased by 15.1%.
The company said the continued expansion of sales in supermarkets by the concept of "same stores"-open establishments for over a year-and noticed that the flag Atacadão continues to benefit from high commodity prices.
The French retailer 2012 ended with revenues of 86.56 billion ($ 234,4 billion) worldwide, reflecting the strategy of concentration of resources in its main markets and the sale of fixed assets less relevant. The company sold last year operations in Colombia, Malaysia and Indonesia, opened up a partnership in Greece and closed stores in Singapore.
