Cielo says retail sales index in Brazil slows down in August

The payment media company Cielo reported on Monday that the company's index on retail sales in Brazil in August indicated growth of 2,3% over the same month last year in deflated terms and 5,7% including inflation. In adjusted terms, the indicator showed a high of 1,4% in the period. Already in nominal and adjusted terms, the so-called ICVA showed that the revenues of the country's retailers had a high of 4,8% in the same comparison. The result marks deceleration before the recorded in July, when the nominal ICVA rose 7,6% and the deflated advanced 4,6%. " This small slowdown from July to August is in line with the trajectory we have observed since the beginning of the year. The pace of retail growth has cooled. It seems that shopkeepers and consumers still expect an improvement in the macroeconomic scenario, "said Cielo's intelligence director, Gabriel Mariotto, in a statement distributed by the company to the press. According to the survey, without discounting inflation, sales grew 6% in the week of Father's Day compared to the same period last year. The highlight sector was supermarkets, which grew 11.8%, said Cielo.
