In Davos, consumer Giants launch program of returnable packaging

The environmentalist slogan "Reduce, reuse, recycle", almost all the attention was devoted – to recycling. Now, some of the largest consumer brands in the world are trying to change the focus to the second "R" – reuse, with a program that provides products in reusable packaging which can be returned to the company for later reimbursement. The durable packaging program, called "Loop" – a reference to the theory of circular economy where nothing is wasted — debuted at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Led by TerraCycle, recycling company based in New Jersey, the Loop will offer popular products from about 25 companies, including Nestlé, Unilever, Procter Gamble and PepsiCo & in reusable containers that customers buy online or in stores and return to the company when the products are consumed. According to the company, the initiative seeks to revive the custom of milk delivery guy of 40 years, how do you explain the founder of TerraCycle's Tom Szaky: "The milk delivery model, reusable packaging and dairy property, so no plastic residue existed ". Until mid-May, the products of the Loop will be initially available online to customers in Paris, Carrefour, and network in the USA, in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The TerraCycle is finishing partnerships in the United States and in Toronto, Canada; negotiating the distribution by Tesco, London, at the end of this year and aimed at Tokyo, in 2020. The Loop will charge a refundable deposit that customers receive when they return their containers. The logistics firm United Parcel Service, UPS, collect the empty containers at no extra cost. Even spending the energy required to transport and prepare the products for reuse, the program reduces the waste, claims the TerraCycle and to retrieve your containers environmental cost of production after three or four uses. Packaging with ' special ' design brands have developed durable containers with their own product designers. Clorox wipes come in a shiny aluminum tube, while the Tropicana orange juice and the Hellman's mayonnaise are sent in bottles and glass jars, for example. For Haagen-Dazs, Nestle has designed a double-walled aluminium pot that really keeps the ice cream cooler than the disposable paper. "Reuse brings an additional element of complexity," said Simon Lowden, President of the Global Snacks Group of PepsiCo. The designers of the company wanted to keep the packaging looks fresh and untreated "and ensure that she could be cleaned several times. The beverage company is also betting on reusable packaging in other parts of its business, mainly for SodaStream, which was acquired last year for $ $3.2 billion. "Essays like this help us to evaluate future potential reusable templates and our ability to get new initiatives," says Lowden. The TerraCycle has invested about $ $10 million in the project, using your free box and raising capital.
