Senate approves national policy of encouraging quality cocoa

The Senate approved on Tuesday (7) the project establishing the National Policy to promote production of quality Cocoa. The design intent (7/2017 PLC) is to increase the quality of Brazilian cocoa through stimulating production, industrialization and marketing of the product in the superior category, from parameters to be defined by the Government. The proposal follows for presidential sanction. By Mr Evair Vieira de Melo (PV-ES), the project had the Senator Valdir Raupp (PMDB-RO) as rapporteur in the Senate. Second Raupp, the project may encourage a higher quality product, besides contributing with measures that can give more momentum to the national economy. Raupp still emphasized that Rondonia, Bahia, Pará and the Holy Spirit are the largest producers of cocoa in Brazil. — The world today is in need of cocoa and our States can now, from that design, produce cocoa with new technologies, with more quality and more productivity — said the Senator. Between public policy guidelines are the technological development of cacauicultura, the collaboration between public entities and the private sector, the development of Brazil's cocoa and access to markets that demand higher product quality. To this end, the proposal stipulates that the public sector make partnerships between public entities and the private sector; support internal and external trade top quality cocoa; stimulate research and development; and offer credit lines aimed at quality cocoa.
