RIO-industry sales of hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco grew 1.4% in May compared with April, according to the monthly survey trade data released on Wednesday, 12, by the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE).
The other activities with positive performance in the period were of furniture and appliances (1.2%); Pharmaceutical, medical, orthopaedic articles, perfumery and cosmetics (0.9%); and fuels and lubricants (0.6%).
The indentation of 0.1% on average of the volume of sales was driven by losses in Textiles, clothing and footwear (-7.8%); Books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (-4.5%); Equipment and stationery, computers and communications (-2.8%); and Other personal and household articles (-0.1%).
In the retail trade expanded, including the activities of vehicles and construction material sales retreated 0.7 percent, according to the IBGE. The segment of vehicles and motorcycles, parts and pieces had growth of 1.2%, while the volume sold construction material grew 1.9%.
