Integral juice sale grows 36% by 2018

Integral juice consumption, the fastest growing category in the ready-to-drink juices, 36.3% will grow between 2016 and 2018 in Brazil (or 10.8% per year), reaching 492,000,000 pounds. The pace of expansion is much slower than in the previous three years, when the full juice consumption in boxes in Brazil (including coconut water) climbed around 30% a year, climbing out of 167,000,000 litres in 2012 to 361,000,000 liters in 2015.
The information is part of the Tetra Pak Juice Index, global study on consumption and trends for ready-to-drink juices market held annually by Tetra Pak containers. This is the ninth edition of the study and is the first time that the company evaluates exclusively 100% juices market integrals.
The volume determined in 2015 100% natural juice ready to drink (including coconut water) is small relative to the total consumption of juices integrals, equivalent to 12.6 percent of the market in Brazil. Integral juice consumption made on time, either for consumption at home or in restaurants and bars, reaches 2.5 billion liters per year.
Trends according to Tetra Pak, this ratio of bottled juices and freshly tends to remain unchanged in the short term. The research points out, however, some types of integrals which juices tend to make more space in the Brazilian market in the coming years. They are: functional juices such as detox and antioxidant action; juices mixing fruits and vegetables; juices in flavors cranberry, mango and coconut water; and drinks called totally natural, i.e. that do not have added sugar, preservatives, that use organic ingredients and without GMOs. These trends also apply to other emerging countries.
Manufacturers in Brazil have taken advantage of these trends. The juice Del Valle, the Coca-Cola Company, for example, entered the market of 100% juice in full in January 2015. To The Right, bought this year by Ambev, also offers 100% full juice ready for consumption in different flavors and priced above the market average.
Compared to traditional flavors, coconut water, which today accounts for 62% of sales of juices ready in Brazil integrals, with sales of 106,100,000 litres in 2015, will continue moving forward in the coming years, says Tetra Pak. orange juice, placed second, with 28.9 percent of the market, is facing difficulties to grow.
