Oracle sells more in Latin America with cloud computing

São Paulo-Oracle is more selling business software in the cloud that traditional licensed products in Latin America, said executives on Tuesday, highlighting how the remote computing boosted demand for small businesses in new markets.
The company''s Chief Executive, Mark Hurd, said that the business of cloud, that stores data and business software on remote servers, allows Oracle sell customers hardware without a budget or a qualified team, which can be hard to find in emerging markets.
"One of the benefits of the cloud is that you can now offer skills to a much broader set of customers," said Hurd during event in Sao Paulo. "We have become the staff; We become the data center, "said Hurd.
"Then you will see that we made a lot of investments in Latin America, in Brazil, to move in the market of low-income consumers at the same time we continue to access the largest customers of the country".
Oracle hopes to win "a ton of market share", in Brazil, said Hurd, adding that hiring was easier during the current recession.
The company built its first data center in Latin America in Brazil last year and since then has made about 400 of signings, expanding the team in more than 30% in a year. Luiz Meisler, Oracle''s Senior Executive in Latin America, said the company had "thousands" of customers of cloud in the region and to have more than 5 1000 by this time next year. (By Brad Haynes)
