Chicken meat production can be reduced in the second half

The economic recession in Brazil and the skyrocketing corn prices on the domestic market should lead to a reduction of production of chicken meat in the second half, which can accelerate the food inflation in the country.
According to the President of the ABPA (Brazilian Association of Animal protein), Francisco Turra, offer adjustment necessary to recover the poultry industry''s profitability tends to lead to a 15% reduction in cutting chicks-birds that are reared and slaughtered after about 45 days.
The 15% reduction in the number of chicks of court housed in farms would mean a decrease of 1.5 million tons in production of chicken meat, said Turra. Last year, production of the segment in Brazil totaled 13.1 million tons, according to the ABPA.
In the evaluation of Executive Secretary of Apinco (Brazilian Association of producers of chicks), José Carlos Godoy, the poultry goes through an unprecedented crisis. "It''s a situation we''ve never faced poultry farming. We''ve always had problems, now, now of scarcity of raw materials, "said Godoy.
The difference of the present crisis, he stressed, is the combination of high prices and weak demand for corn in Brazil. Given this, the price adjustments to compensate for the high costs of corn production is responsible for about 60% of the feed-based on consumer resistance.
