Dow will award projects to combat the food waste in Latin America

Dow confirms its position in the plastics industry and adhesives to highlight an action precursor in the segment of packaging. The Diamond Award 2016, designed by the food packaging and Plastic Specialities from Dow, will highlight the best projects developed by company''s clients and that have as their purpose the reduction of food waste.
The cases participants in the Diamond Award will challenge propose solutions for packaging to encourage industry to develop alternatives and innovations for topics such as:
most appropriate sizes for every occasion;
increasing the service life before and after opening;
best solutions of dosage;
possibility of use of the product, without surplus or loss;
reduction in damage caused during transport with Unitization solutions.
Bruno Pereira, Marketing Manager for new businesses and sustainability of packaging and specialty plastics Dow for Latin America, highlights the importance of the prize: "the Diamond Award is an initiative that promotes the pioneering spirit to encourage the development of projects that drive innovation and sustainability to the plastics industry in Latin America".
Data from the FAO (United Nations food and Agriculture Organization) indicate that one-third of all food is wasted. It is estimated that the injury with the food waste in the world reach $ 750 billion per year (FAO/2013). Of that amount, 46% occur in steps of processing, distribution and consumption.
In addition to Brazil, the Diamond Award will cover projects of Mexico, Chile, Peru and all the Andean region, formed by Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
