Imports of chemical products totaled $ 3.7 billion in June, with a high of 0.2% compared to the previous year and 15.1% compared to the calculated amount in may, according to the foreign trade statistics report (Rece) of the Brazilian chemical industry Association (Abiquim). In the first half, external purchases of chemicals totaled US $ 18,9 billion, down 10.9%. In volume, the retraction was 13.3%, to 15.7 million tonnes. With $ 2.7 billion in six months, the middlemen for fertilizers remained as more imported chemicals, even with drop of 15.6%.
Exports of chemicals, in turn, had in June fall of 0.8% over the same month last year, totaling $ 1.2 billion, but increased 12.9% compared to may. In the household of the first half, external sales totaled US $ 6.3 billion, a fall of 7.5% compared to the first quarter of 2014.
With that, the accumulated deficit of the trade balance in the chemical industry amounted to $ 12.5 billion in the first half. In the 12 months to June, the negative balance was $ 29.1 billion, below the $ 31.2 billion recorded in the year 2014, "which shows clearly the impacts of national economic activity shrank in the first months of the year the balance of trade of chemicals", according to the Abiquim.
In a statement, the Chief Executive of the entity, Fernando Figueiredo, considers that the reduction of imports in the first half resulted in no gain competitiveness by the domestic industry. "Are, in fact, a rather delicate economic scenario and the strong exchange rate pressure that marked the first months of the year," said Figueiredo. "We hope that the national Exports, recently released by the Government, encourages new businesses and cooperate in containing the deficit increase in chemicals," he added.
