1.9 trillion food packaging were shipped worldwide in 2014

The number of food packaging units sold globally increased 3%, reaching 1.9 trillion in 2014, according to data from Euromonitor International. The stand-up pouch, although not among the most used plastic packaging in the food industry, is the fastest-growing type, with forecast average annual growth of 6% for the period from 2014 to 2019. Among the postings in pouches in 2014 are cereals Kellog s, in France, ´ meals ready Heinz, in Germany, and the sweet corn of Green Giant ´ s.
"The stand-up pouch is gaining strong presence, being used as a packaging solution that goes into the microwave for ready meals, like rice and pasta, but also as a shareable package of cookies, and how single-dose packaging in which the product is consumed in their own pouch, like ice cream, yogurt or baby food. The stand-up pouch meets all the requirements, "says Rosemarie Downey, head of research on packing of Euromonitor.
China and India should contribute with 58% of all the growth of food packaging in 2015. The Asia Pacific region alone recorded a growth of 5% in 2014, representing 320 billion additional packaging.
"China and India are the indomitable powers on global food packaging industry," added Downey.
