Brazilian production of papers was 10.4 million tonnes in 2014

According to data from the Brazilian Industry – IBÁ Trees the Brazilian market consumed 2.33 million tons of papers for I&E (printing and writing) in 2014, recovering part of the slice lost in 2013, when the consumption had retreated 5 percent.
National production was slightly smaller, while the international market registered a fall of 6.2% compared to the previous year's volumes. Available data indicate that the internal market required more paper imported I&E, in addition to buying more of the domestic manufacturers. The Brazilian production amounted to 2, 61milhões tons, 0.3% less than 2013.
Two-thirds of production were sold internally – 1.75 million tons, 2.6% higher volume than the previous year (1.71 million tons).
In General, the Brazilian production of papers was 10.40 million tonnes, 0.4% lower in 2014 in comparison with the previous year, registering positive indices in packaging and health segments, from 0.3% and 2.5% respectively. Since the domestic sales totaled 5.72 million tonnes, with growth only in sanitary segments (3.1%) and printing and writing (2.6 percent).
The presence of Brazilian products abroad has grown only on packages. In total, 1.85 million tonnes were exported, 1.1% less in comparison to 2013. With negative indices in the segments of health, newspapers and packaging, total imports decreased 0.9% of papers in 2014, adding 1.26 million tons.
Newsprint consumption follows in strong downward trend, reaching 396 thousand tonnes last year – 11% less than in 2013. Nearly 40% less than in 2008, when the consumption of paper was 651 thousand tonnes.
