Brazil announces embargo on Argentinean apples and pears

The Brazil decided on Tuesday to suspend the importation of apples and pears argentinas depending on presence of Prague Cydia pomonella in fruit, in a measure aimed at protecting Brazilian farmers of a possible return of the disease eradicated in the country in 2014.
"On the question of sanitary defense and pest and disease control, the Brazil cannot compromise. The tolerance is zero, regardless of the trading partner, "said the Minister of agriculture, Kátia Abreu, in a note.
According to the folder, the suspension applies until the Argentine system oversees risks related to pests and diseases is reevaluated.
In the note, the Ministry States that the plague, known as the Apple Moth was found in 15 shipments of apples and pears from that country, in the first months of the year.
Quince shipments from neighboring country will also be barred.
The Brazilian Government had threatened to ban the import of Apple argentina if the country didn't allow the entry of Brazilian Auditors to confirm or not the existence of the plague in Argentine shipments, as anticipated to Reuters last week.
The delay of Argentina in authorises the entry of the inspectors in the country to inspect the fruits "in loco", scheduled for March and then to April, at the request of Argentina, has made the Map decided to garnish the fruit.
Since eradicated the plague the Brazil has an international certificate, unlike Argentina, making necessary the entry of these auditors in the neighboring country to carry out inspections.
The lock can shudder trade relations with the neighboring country, although the fruit trade involves relatively small values near the exports and imports of major national agri-business products.
Last year, imports of Apple argentina for Brazil totaled 46.1 million tons, equivalent to 48.8 million dollars, according to data from the Ministry of development, industry and foreign trade of Brazil.
