After growth of 10%, industry invests on special cans for 2015

Growth, especially in the first half of the year, was driven in large part by the late Carnival, which happened in March, followed by the completion of the football World Cup in June and July. Despite the good performance of the sector in 2014, packaging manufacturers are cautious when talking about expectations for 2015.
"As a result of increased energy tariffs, the readjustment of tax on cold drinks, the increase of inflation and the exchange rate, the market is expected to suffer a slowdown in General", ponders Carlos Medeiros, President of Rexam. For him, the industry should focus on the management and control of costs in 2015.
The President of Crown packaging, Wilmar Brandie, also sees the year 2015 with caveats. "I don't believe in a growth as of 2014. We will have at most a one-digit growth down, due to the stagnant economy, "he added.
The commercial Director of Latapack-Ball, Jorge Bannitz, goes beyond. For it is possible that there is an indentation in the production of beverages. "Even with this possibility, I believe we have a good chance to continue increasing the participation of aluminum in the Brazilian consumption. In some ways this growth can compensate for possible setbacks, "he says.
To cope with the economic crisis, the sector now bet on the cans in special formats, which have fallen increasingly on the taste of the consumer. In 2014, the consumption of this segment had significant growth, according to the President of Rexam. Carlos Medeiros said that throughout the year the company will continue to invest in the production of those different packaging formats. "We will focus on innovations in paints and varnishes. The cans Editions, which enable the printing of up to 24 different arts per pallet, the Fusion bottles, the lightest on the market, and our SuperLatão of 710 ml follow being the highlights of our product line, "he said.
Mann also said that last year the company increased capacity to meet the demand for special cans performing important investments along the lines of Brasília/DF, Pouso Alegre-MG and Águas Claras/RS. "We expanded our production capacity of special cans and also we inaugurated a new production line in Chile, bringing additional versatility and capacity gains, since this line is geared towards the production of differentiated formats," he explained.
Crown Packaging also increased its production capacity in 2014 inaugurating new plant of cans in Teresina and an additional row in Cabreúva unit/SP. "Made those investments in 2014 in order to meet the demands of the market", explained Wilmar Brandie, adding that due to the uncertainties in the Brazilian economy, the company does not intend to make investments in 2015.
