Aurora inaugurates pig slaughter unit in Santa Catarina

The Central Cooperative Aurora Foods inaugurates today a unit of slaughter and processing of pigs in the industrial district of Joaçaba, Santa Catarina. The venture will spend 44% of production for the foreign market and 56% for consumption of the domestic market, according to the State Department of Agriculture and fisheries, on their website.
The industrial unit of Joaçaba was inaugurated in April 2002 and had their activities paralyzed, because of the international financial crisis, in April 2009. Reopened in January this year, after 12 months of enlargement and modernization works that absorbed investment of r $ 86 million, but only now will have its official opening.
With the new industrial plant, the Aurora has tripled its industrial capacity, according to the President of the cooperative, Mario Lanznaster. The current slaughter is 1.5 thousand pigs per day and, in September, the expectation is to reach 3 000 head per day.
