Sale of 164% in Brazil increases tablets in the first quarter of 2013, says IDC

The sale of tablets in the country in the first quarter of 2013 grew 164 percent compared with the same period in 2012, reaching 1.3 million devices sold, according to a study of the consulting firm IDC Brazil disclosed this Tuesday (2). In the first quarter of 2012, 493 thousand tablets were sold.
The number registered in the quarter was higher than the total registered in the year 2011, when 1.1 million tablets were sold in Brazil, according to the consultancy.
Considering tablets next to the PC market, the participation of the devices in the first quarter of 2013 was 27.6%, while 39.5% stayed with notebooks and desktops with 32.9%. In relation to the operating system of the devices sold in the period, 89% have Android.
IDC's expectation is that 5.9 million tablets to be sold in 2013, an increase of 81% for 2012.
One of the reasons for the advice is that the price of Brazilian consumers and attracts tablets impact PC sales in the country. "The tablets have become the most convenient option for users seeking for a cheaper device, which consequently impact on PC sales, especially notebooks.
