FMC bet in special fertilizers

The pesticide manufacturer FMC has established a partnership with the American company Cytozyme Laboratories to serve in the Brazilian market of special fertilizers, a business that can represent up to 10% of its sales in the country over the next five years.
Under the agreement, signed at the end of last year, the FMC has obtained exclusive marketing rights of Brazil and Latin America in Cytozyme. For now, no product will be manufactured in Brazil.
According to the Director of corporate business of FMC in Brazil, Paulo César de Oliveira, the company goal is to snap up a slice of at least $ 100 million to market, according to the company, moved $ 1 billion in 2013.
If the forecast is confirmed, Brazil will become the largest market for a small business, Cytozyme of Utah, founded in 1975, with revenues of approximately $ 30 million per year.
"The special fertilizers segment grows about 20% per year in Brazil, more than the defensive segment" animates itself. Last year, the Brazilian market was worth US $ 9.7 defensive billion, an increase of 14% compared to 2011. FMC's sales totaled about $ 740 million.
The so-called special fertilizers are micronutrients, plant extracts and amino acids applied directly on the leaves and seeds to increase their productive potential. The use is more common in fruits and vegetables, which today accounts for more than two-thirds of the market. In recent years, however, the manufacturers have been trying to advance in field crops-soybeans, corn, cotton and sugar cane.
"We estimate that this market could reach $ 4 billion in Brazil in a few years," says Oliveira. According to the Executive, the special fertilizers move approximately $ 1 billion in the United States and another $ 1.5 billion in Europe.
Initially, the FMC will focus its sales of fertilizers in fruits and vegetables and sugar cane-the multi is the market leader of pesticides for cane, crop that accounts for one-third of its sales in Brazil. "After we left for soy, cotton and corn," says Oliveira.
The Brazil is the main agricultural market to the FMC, which last year grossed $ 2.1 billion worldwide industry. According to Oliveira, the revenue from sale of pesticides in the Brazilian market should reach $ 900 million in 2013-an increase of 21% compared to last year. The company is the fourth in the ranking of pesticides in the country, behind Syngenta, Bayer CropScience and Basf.
