ADP and Schiphol to combine the Brazilians to buy 50% of the River airport

The French group Aéroports de Paris and his ally Dutch Schiphol joined with two Brazilian companies to present an offer for about 50% of the airport of Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Government wants to privatise, informed Schiphol sources yesterday. "There is still no final decision on the presentation of an offer, but there is a serious interest," Mirjam Snoerwang told AFP, spokesman for the Schiphol group and terminal 4 of JFK airport, New York.
The Consortium, composed of ADP, Schiphol, by Brazilian Carioca and construction by GP investments, may submit an offer in the second half. If they decide to make the bid, will be by 50%, more or less, of the shares. "Brazil is attractive, a growing economy and also organize the soccer World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016," said Snoerwang.
The ADP has publicly expressed its interest in acquiring a stake of Rio's airport. Its Chairman, Augustin de Romanet said in late February that the Brazilian Government would be happy with the participation of ADP.
In an interview with the Dutch news agency ANP, the Executive Director of Schiphol, Jos Nijhuis, indicated that the eventual offer would be for a 30-year concession by the Brazilian Government, which would continue as owner of the rest of the airport. The quality of the city's airport, with a capacity for 17.3 million passengers per year, according to Nijhuis, leaves much to be desired.
The investments of the new owners would benefit also the Dutch airline KLM, for which "the Brazil is important". Nijhuis had asserted that the two Brazilian partners would together a top the 50 percent in the Consortium. Snoerwang confirmed yesterday that the Schiphol within the consortium would be a minority.
