Grupo Petrópolis purchase factory in Sorocaba

SOROCABA-Grupo Petrópolis, manufacturer of brews Itaipava and Crystal, bought at auction the Liquor facilities judicial Mason, traditional popular soft drinks factory in Sorocaba, 92 kilometers from Sao Paulo. The group, which already owns a brewery in Boituva in the region, is in the process of business expansion and recently reinforced its participation in the segment of isotonic drinks. The forced sale occurred in auction held on April 4, but it wasn't disclosed because business is still discussed in court.
The purchase, made through the company Zuquetti & Marzola Participations and representations, group controller, was marred by controversial moves. The Mason factory, located on a plot of 31.7 thousand square meters in urban region prized us city of Walnut Ave. P, on the sidelines of the rodovia Raposo Tavares-, plus the administrative buildings and the industrial shed with built-up area of 9.9 thousand square meters, were seized for $ 17 million.
The bid given by the company, however, had been surpassed by another bidder, but the Federal Court of Sorocaba downgraded the first place for not having made the payment of bail of 20% within determined. When assigning the forced sale to the runner-up, the Zuquetti & Marzola, the federal judge also took into account the fact that the first bidder be a former Mason.
The company was brought to auction in implementing action moved by the National Treasury for collection of tax debts. The total amount of the debt exceeds the value of the assessment of the plant. In previous auction, held in March this year, the goods offered and facilities-were seized by a physical person, a former employee of Mason, but the winning bidder not deposited the collateral value and put a stop on the cheques in payment data to the auctioneer. The judge considered there was fraud and determined the new auction.
The magistrate also ruled the opening of investigation by the Federal Police for investigation of fraud against public auction. The Mason filed interlocutory appeal, obtaining the suspension of the process until the trial of the feature, which has not yet occurred. Due to fiscal secrecy involved, the process runs in sub judice. According to co-owner Odair Mason, the company will exhaust the legal measures to prevent the loss of their heritage.

The Mason won the regional market with popular soft drinks such as sodas and the gooseberry flavor. The company had participated in the launch of the first diet soda manufactured in Brazil.
