Brazilians consume less eggs than the world average

The Brazil registers one of the lowest averages of egg consumption per inhabitant. A survey conducted by the Brazilian poultry Union (UBABEF) shows that the per capita consumption is, on average, 162 eggs per year. In 2012, the world average was of 210 eggs per inhabitant. The Mexico leads the ranking of consumption with 360 units per year (almost an egg a day).
One of the reasons for this low level of consumption refers to the myths that existed around the egg properties like, for example, that the food was bad cholesterol source.
However, surveys reveal exactly the opposite highlighting the properties of this food. So, campaigns and actions of clarification has been made by UBABEF in partnership with the Instituto Brazil Eggs to change product image next to the Brazilian consumer as the UBABEF markets Director, Ricardo Santin.
"The egg is one of the most complete foods there is, source of nutrients essential for the proper functioning of the body such as protein, iron, zinc and others. In addition, there is also the effort for that egg consumption-product (processed) is expanded in Brazil to increase food intake, "she concludes.
The processed egg is especially used in processed foods and is one of the factors that contributes to the high consumption per egg captures in countries such as Mexico.
