Waste reduction requires incentive

Encourage the conscientious consumption, which prioritize products with a lower environmental footprint, is the path to a more sustainable world. It also passes by the reuse of materials, with the aim of reducing the disposal and the volume of waste in landfills. That''s why the national plan of solid waste (PNRS) federal Government WINS among environmental policies currently in force in our country, to establish shared responsibility for the lifecycle of the products on the part of the production chain.
An important step given in this direction is the voluntary commitment of the brazilian packaging industry, in General, to establish a system of reverse logistics to reduce dry recyclable waste in landfills in the country. The Pact, which has the Brazilian Industry of trees (Ibá) between its signatories, ensures the creation of a system for the collection and proper disposal of products, in order to strengthen channels of reverse logistics, guaranteeing also the implementation of the national plan.
In practice, this means a lower volume of discarded materials and increased rates of reuse. Thus, the paper will have a fundamental contribution to the agreement for packaging logistics, signed between the Government, the industry and the pickers. For being a product of easy reuse, the paper has high recycling rate in Brazil, being this a tradition already incorporated into its production process. Proof of this is the high rate of recovery-almost 60%-of what is consumed.
Sustainability is a feature that comes with the product since the beginning. In Brazil, 100% of the production of paper, including the packaging, originates in the trees planted, with harvest and planting annual cycle, in a renewable process without causing deforestation, aside from conserve biodiversity through techniques such as planting in mosaics, in which trees for industrial purposes are inserted with the natives.
But to ensure the execution of the PNRS must also encourage the use of recycled matter. It is necessary that the Government work to stimulate demand and loosening rules that restrict the use of recyclable and go against the solid waste reduction policy.
We must still ensure that importers are also liable for the proper disposal and recycling of packages coming from overseas, involving international products purchased by companies and by consumers themselves over the internet, for example. The manufacturers and companies cannot assume responsibility for the volume of imported material that goes into landfills.
So, the trees planted are ready to fulfill their part in the national solid waste Plan and expects the commitment of all the links in the chain so that the proposed system reach all your goals.
